Lützow Freikorps

Dziś szybka wrzutka przed bitwą w uniwersum, w którym Napoleon nadal jest bogiem wojny i geniuszem strategii ;-)

Today, a quick teaser before the battle in the universe, where Napoleon is still the God of War and the Genius of Strategy ;-)

Dzięki uprzejmości kolegi Aiuta zostałem posiadaczem sześciu główek w ciekawych czapkach.

Thanks to my colleague Aiuto, I became the owner of six heads in interesting caps.

Zostały one wykonane specjalnie do wystawienia batalionu piechoty korpusu Lützowa.

They were made especially to display the infantry battalion of the Lützow corps.

I thought it might be a very nice unit, because it is all black and could be painted fast, which partially turned out to be true ;-) The first challenge was to choose the right "black". I tried pure gray - Mechanicus Standard Gray GW - and a few blends with Abaddon Black GW with black wash in the end.

Mechanicus Standard Grey GW i czarny wash - NIE
Mechanicus Standard Gray GW and black wash - NOPE

Mechanicus Standard Grey z małą domieszką Abaddon Black i czarny wash - NIE

Mechanicus Standard Grey doped with a little bit of Abaddon Black and black wash - NOPE

Mechanicus Standard Grey pół-na-pół z Abaddon Black i czarny wash - TAK

Mechanicus Standard Grey fifty-fifty with Abaddon Black and black wash - YES

This is how the minis look after application of the "base colour" - without the wash

Następnie przyszedł czas na dodanie szczegółów:
- lederwerki pociągnąłem po prostu czarnym,
- drewno karabinu - ciemny brąz,
- trzonek i pokrowiec toporka, tornister - jasny brąz,
- lufa i ostrze toporka, szabla z pochwą - srebrny,
- guziki, werbel i rękojeść szabli - złoty,
- koc - szary,
- twarze i dłonie - cielisty od Vallejo.
Całość pociągnąłem czarnym washem, oprócz twarzy i dłoni, na które dałem podwójnie Seraphim Sepia.
Całość prezentuje się tak.

Then it's time to add the details:
- I just painted all the leather belts with black,
- rifle's stock - dark brown,
- axe handle and it's cover, knapsack - light brown,
- barrel and axe blade, saber with scabbard - silver,
- buttons, drum and saber handle - gold,
- collar edges and cuffs, cap rim - red,
- blanket - gray,
- faces and hands - skinny from Vallejo.
I washed the whole minis with black wash, except for the face and hands which I washed with Seraphim Sepia twice.
Overall it turned to look like this.

The banner that Lützow's corps carried in the battle, if it ever wore it, is unknown, so I allowed myself a little licentia poetica. I converted a flag found on the web in Paint (it's my favorite software for creating banners ;-)) into black&white only, and then again into coloured one adding red and yellow, which together with black, are so characteristic of the Lützow corps.

After adding the grass, tufts and flowers, the battalion looks like this.

How the battalion performed in the battle I will describe next time, but in the starting position it looked like this.
